The Yin and Yang of Leadership by Steve Irving- Your Marketing Leader

Over the last years I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the most influential female entrepreneurs in the entire network marketing industry. While there are some incredible network marketers in this industry with some phenomenal talents, my hat truly has to go off to the women out there who are absolutely CRUSHING it in this industry.

There are some very cornerstone things that women are naturally talented at that you can learn from and implement into your business today.  On the other hand, there are some things that men tend to do very well in this industry that you can learn from as well. When you put these two skill sets together, I like to call it the yin and yang of leadership.

Women Entrepreneurs Are 80% of Our Industry

The bottom line is that if you want to be a good network marketer. You have to be an excellent connector. The key to being an excellent connector is absolutely to be a good listener. If you are a really good listener then you will see that there is a lot that you can deliver directly to the hearts of your prospects. That is, IF you simply understand what their needs are. Many women are very talented at creating great friendships and being nurturers because of their ability to listen.

The key to building a successful relationship with your prospects is not just having a good amount of knowledge of your subject, but listening hard and long enough to know how to actually deliver your knowledge specifically for what your prospects are looking for. Let’s take a look at some of the feminine qualities that you can learn and implement into your business right away.

Hearts, Ears, and Nuturing: Female Leadership Qualities

You will find that women are excellent at connecting with people, because of their willingness to support others and nurture their success. The bottom line of what we do in network marketing is to empower others and coach them to take control their lives and achieve their goals. When you use this approach in your business, you’ll find that it is much more about winning people’s hearts first, then their trust, and then your opportunity last.

Much of the power of female entrepreneurs comes from realizing that it is not about you as much as it is about how much you care. If people believe that you take a genuine interest in their well-being, you can earn trust a heck of a lot faster than trying to shove your business down people’s throats. Building yourself as a leader is one of the characteristics of entrepreneur success. Be a person who cares and understands struggles of others. Get away from “that selling place” As fast as you can, and move into “that coaching place.” This type of mindset shift is vital if you want to succeed.

Of Course That’s Only Half of the Story…

Of course, it’s only half of the story to be a great giver, carer and nurturer. Network marketing is a business — not a charity; and an opportunity — not a guarantee. That’s why it is so important that you have clear goals and action steps that will help you get to where you want to. This is why the next half of what we are going to talk about — masculine leadership qualities – is the fire behind what makes all this stuff work.

Blood, Sweat, and Muscles: Masculine Leadership Qualities

The desire to succeed, of wanting to create a better life, and the willingness to help others is only half of the story. The other 50% of the story lies in action-taking. And sadly, taking action is one of the things that network marketers in this industry — actually for 95% of this industry — struggle with every single day. Clear goals, decisive action taking, and aggressive implementation are really all long words for just saying: Get off Your Butt and Get in the Game!

If you want to make the gears start clicking and turning, and if you want the pistons to start churning and exploding in your business engine, you must make a daily action plan. A daily action plan is absolutely vital — and you must be committed to completing it every single day before you go to sleep– no matter what. One of the things that men are good at is aggressive persistence. Even if things are not perfect and we don’t know what the heck we are doing, we always charge forward 100%.

Make goals for yourself. Not just in the short term, but in the long-term. And you absolutely must hold yourself accountable for achieving each of these goals within the timeframe that you set for yourself — or quicker! In the network marketing industry. There’s no amount of preparation that you can do that will prepare you for all the obstacles that are going to come your way. The best way to fight against this uncertainty is to make the commitment — right now — that you’re going to do what it takes no matter what.  Charge forward 100% or die — that should be your mentality.

Putting It All Together… The Yin and Yang

When I think about putting these two halves together, the first thing that comes to mind is my own mother. She had to raise myself two other kids all on her own. She had to be the mother and she had to be the father because anything less would put me, my brother, and sister at a disadvantage. You have got to make the decision right now not to put itself at a disadvantage. Develop on your skills of connecting and also the skills of aggressive persistence. If you truly want to have the characteristics of entrepreneur success, you will always be in a state of self-improvement.

The best of all MLM tips that I could share with you is to always be connected with leaders and studying people that have the results that you want. It is not enough just to be the leader. You must also understand what it’s like to be the follower and the student. You must become the nurturer and the action-taker.  You have to be a clear presenter, but only after you become a good listener.

Thanks for sending me the link to your video. Good job on it, it was helpful to me! I’ve been a mompreneur and wahm in network marketing for 5 years and I love it, but I’ve found that a lot (maybe the majority) of readers and commentators on my blog are men, so I posed a question in my blog post as to if I was cutting my market in half by branding myself and my blog around mompreneurs and wahms. I’m waiting to see what my readers thing, but I love serving the mompreneur and wahm and my intuition is telling me I’m right where I should be. :)

Thanks for connecting on twitter! Heather (@stephensheather on twitter)

Telemarketers… ooohhh… I’ll bet we’ve all got a nice story to tell about these guys & gals don’t we? Well here’s a story i’ll never forget and I’ll show you how to turn a sales call into a sale for you!
So I’m sitting in my office one day and mind you at the moment I didn’t have a helper to screen my call for me and don’t you know it, I get a telemarketer.

See, I used to be in a few network marketing programs and I know how hard it is to get rejections on the phone. Some of us take it very personal and some just don’t care. But I assert you this, whichever one you are, cold calling isn’t an easy business.

When someone calls me to sell me something I will only talk to them if they too will listen to a promotion I’m offering, only fair right? You’d be amazed at how many won’t listen to you so why would you listen to them?

I make it a point to tell them that my specialty is promoting and if they want to have any of my time, they will have to listen to me 1st. No exceptions.

So one day, I get this call from this really nice guy who completely understood my deal and accepted to hear what I had to say. Usually, I will pick one of my clients and and only promote that one client to the other person on the phone. Trying to promote 2 or more at a time is like road kill, you don’t want to confuse the other person.

With this conversation on the phone with this telemarketer I explain to him that I have a client in the Transport industry and he deals with all kinds of shipping services. What I usually do is ask the other person on the phone if he can recall anyone who mentioned to him that they needed to ship something!!!

With that, this gentlemen on the phone says “I’m actually looking into shipping a small package overseas”. Now, I’m fully aware that he can just say whatever he wants and possibly get me to finally listen to him so I immediately conferenced him with the transport company to give them his contact information so that they can send him an information package.

Once the call was complete, I returned the favor for allowing me to discuss one of the promotions my company was taking care of and asked the gentlemen to explain what it was he was calling for. It turns out that he was trying to sell a magazine subscription for health issues. I told him that I wasn’t interested but I had a client who was in the health industry so I gave this gentlemen my clients information to contact him

Going back to the transport company, it turned out that the telemarketer actually did take their services and in return the owner of the transport company took a year subscription of the health magazine I told you about!

Now that’s not often it happens like the way it did but just remember that telemarketers are people as well and they too also know other people. There’s a great book that I feel is of the best on this type of promoting and anyone committed to their sales should read it…

It’s called: Endless Referrals By: Bob Burg

    “A must read”.

So next time a telemarketer calls you, you’ll know what to do and if they reject hearing your offer, be kind and let them go!

    Hope you’ve enjoyed my story!

You are very welcome, Sandi. Being a part of our incredible MLSP community…even when your company shuts down, there is a wealth of leaders and teams to bounce back quickly.

I was just talking to someone about “leverage” when I saw your comment, Sandi. Because you have leverage, because you own your list, because you have relationships that are based on value–Who needs Efusjon anyway, right?

Thanks for leaving your comment and looking forward to hearing more from you, Sandi. God Bless.

Certain this was a decent write-up. I really checked it out and see where the author is coming from in this case. I just sort of look at it as what else is this gonna be of use to other individuals in the grand scheme of things. The only thing I am thinking in my head is how much time I just spent on this content – but I liked it so I think you need to watch it. Why not test the validity from the concept by doing some study, right? Call me the cynic but I did just wish to ask. This could be could if the entertainment worth holds up long enough in the very least. I’m not sure what else other individuals are going to think in terms of this write-up, but oh well. I dunno, I guess that’s me just becoming a cynic and all. Okay well I am done rambling, so I’ll let you formulate your personal thoughts from here lol. Im’ outty.

Thanks, Timmy! The gist of this article is to open the marketer’s mind to the strengths and weakness they may have.
